We seek an experienced Interim Executive Director for Climate Environment & Customer Service (CECS), with extensive local government experience and expertise in this key leadership role. You will advise the Chief Executive and work with the Executive Directors to realize the organization’s vision and strategy.
In this role, you will lead efforts related to the Mayoral Combined Authority, supporting Essex's devolution and Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). This work will accelerate over the next year leading up to the May 2026 Mayoral election. Effective collaboration and communication with partners and stakeholders will be essential.
This is a highly visible, demanding role requiring a leader with a strong professional reputation, influence, resilience, and strategic partnership management skills. The role is central to the council's future strategy, focusing on climate action and sustainable growth, including infrastructure development.
The Executive Director will oversee climate initiatives and frontline services such as waste management, highways, transportation, and customer engagement. A strong commercial focus and operational experience in local government are essential, along with a proven record of leading major transformation projects.
Note: Essex County Council will apply off-payroll working rules for this role, with taxes and contributions deducted at source if services are provided through an intermediary.
