Job summary

The Materials Management Operative is a customer-facing role requiring a strong customer service work ethic and a proactive, positive attitude. The role involves working in a team, operating the Trust's goods inwards/outwards systems for delivering goods to Wards and Departments. The post holder will assist customers at the Main Stores, checking received goods against delivery documents and picking and packing supplies based on requisitions from various Trust services.

The role includes managing stock levels, reviewing inventory in line with clinical activity, and scanning, ordering, and storing supplies as per schedule.

This position requires physical fitness.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7.5-hour shifts, core hours between 7 am and 5 pm.

Main duties
  • Contact with ward and service managers and staff within the hospital
  • Procurement activities involving Clinical Specialists, Contracts Team, Customer Services
  • Engagement with divisional teams
  • Participation in ward review meetings
  • Health & Safety responsibilities, including Major Incidents
  • Financial tasks with e-Financials Systems Team and Accounts Payable
  • Coordination with other hospital services such as Facilities and Estates
  • Interaction with all levels of Trust staff

Job description & responsibilities

Make judgements about stock levels required on wards and departments using barcode technology, replenishing stock to agreed levels.

Maintain effective liaison with NHS Supply Chain and suppliers.

Adhere to Trust policies on infection prevention and control.

Assist in maintaining ward areas regarding storage and replenishment of consumables.

Accurately count, scan, input, upload information, and store stock for designated wards/departments.

Locate and provide emergency supplies as needed.

Assist with processing Non-Stock Materials Management requests and maintain relationships with purchasing staff.

Maintain stock at agreed levels, ensuring security during delivery and storage.

Immediately break down deliveries; do not leave cages or totes unattended on wards/departments.
