In today’s demanding world, architecture must fulfill many needs and take on numerous roles. Architectural product manufacturers and designers are constantly innovating, introducing advanced materials to meet these demands.

At Petrarch Panels, we offer premium cladding and framing solutions to help designers and architects realize their visions. Located in Hastings, the successful apprentice will work with experts to develop skills in the material testing sector, ideal for those interested in science seeking a non-traditional lab role.

The Package

  • Starting salary: £19,000/year
  • 37.5 hours/week with 1-hour lunch
  • 8am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

Responsibilities of the Apprentice:

Under supervision, conduct testing on raw materials and finished products, ensuring compliance with specifications. Collaborate with manufacturing to replicate lab results on the production line and resolve issues.

  • Operate laboratory and pilot machinery for formulation production
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and conduct experiments
  • Characterize materials and composites
  • Develop new formulations and technologies with scientists and engineers
  • Record observations and communicate findings
  • Test raw materials and formulations for quality and cost-effectiveness
  • Perform mechanical and physical testing on products
  • Support other departments as needed
  • Adhere to safety policies

This apprenticeship offers real-world experience while studying for a qualification, with support throughout your journey, leading to potential full-time employment and further qualifications like BSc in Applied Bioscience or Chemical Science.

How the Apprenticeship Works:

Over 21 months, spend at least 6 hours weekly on training, combining theory and practical work, earning a salary while gaining a Level 3 Laboratory Technician qualification. Training includes virtual lessons, shadowing, mentoring, and assignments, with expert tutors and mentors guiding you.

Eligibility criteria include being over 18, not in full-time education, UK residency for 3 years, and right to work in the UK. If you don’t meet these yet, express interest, and we’ll discuss further.
