Job description

Freighter & Marine Engineer - London

Navis Consulting has a position available for a Freighter and Marine Engineer to join a large submarine telecommunications company based in London.

Responsibilities:
  1. Management of freighter mobilization, transfer operations worldwide for telecommunications cable and associated submerged equipment
  2. Design of cable storage and cable handling equipment
  3. Managing fabrication, commissioning, and planned maintenance of cable handling equipment
  4. Team supervision, QHSE, and costs control of freighter and depot operations
  5. Working in close conjunction with Project Managers and Vessel crew
Desired Education, Training, and Qualifications:
  • Marine Engineering knowledge and understanding of general engineering systems on board ships, including machinery and hydraulic systems
  • Basic knowledge of vessel stability calculation, onboard steel work, and Computer Aided Design
  • Materials used in Marine Engineering: overview of metals used in the marine environment
  • Basic Electrical Engineering Principles: DC circuit theory, AC circuit theory, electrical power, DC machines, power factor
  • Engineering Mathematics: basic understanding of differential circuit equations
  • Lifting and Sling, Offshore Safety certifications
  • Shipping Qualifications and Skills: vessel itinerary planning, knowledge of the ISPS code, coordination in port operations, experience with regulatory authorities and port agents
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, E-mail, PowerPoint) and Basic MCA Certification
