Job summary

Practical space engineering opportunity with Practicus in Stevenage to lead EEE components activities for space missions. You will own selection, qualification, and assurance of electronic components across ESA, NASA, and commercial programs.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of Components Engineering experience within ESA, NASA, or Commercial space programs.
  • Deep knowledge of ECSS, ESCC, NASA, and MIL standards.
  • Understanding radiation effects including TID and SEE.
  • Security screening (BPSS) requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the evaluation and approval of semiconductor, passive, and electromechanical components for space applications.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface for EEE parts with customers and design reviews.
  • Perform deep-dive assessments covering reliability, radiation performance, derating, and obsolescence.
  • Define and support component qualification, screening, and LAT activities.
  • Chair Parts Control Board activities and approve component selections, deviations, and waivers.
  • Investigate component-related failures and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Following a period of continued growth, we are seeking a EEE Components Engineer to join a high-calibre Product Assurance team. This is a pivotal role working on cutting-edge missions where products must survive the harsh environment of space for up to 15 years.

The Mission

As a EEE Components Engineer, you will take ownership of the selection, qualification, and assurance of Electronic, Electrical, and Electromechanical components. You will be the focal point for quality across institutional, defence, and commercial space programmes, ensuring every part meets rigorous mission performance and reliability standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Component Leadership: Lead the evaluation and approval of semiconductor, passive, and electromechanical components for space applications.
  • Technical Interface: Act as the primary technical interface for EEE parts with customers, supporting design reviews and resolving technical discrepancies.
  • Assurance & Assessment: Perform deep-dive assessments covering reliability, radiation performance (TID, SEE), derating, and obsolescence.
  • Qualification & Testing: Define and support component qualification, screening, and Lot Acceptance Testing (LAT).
  • Critical Reviews: Chair Parts Control Board (PCB) activities and approve component selections, deviations, and waivers.
  • Failure Analysis: Investigate component-related failures and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Your Profile

We are looking for a proactive professional with a "quality-first" mindset and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

  • Experience: 3-5 years of Components Engineering experience within ESA, NASA, or Commercial space programs.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in ECSS, ESCC, NASA, and relevant MIL standards.
  • Radiation Expertise: A solid understanding of radiation effects, including TID and SEE.
  • Education: A Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Security: Ability to pass BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) screening.
  • Experience with radiation analysis tools such as OMERE, SPENVIS, or FASTRAD.
  • Familiarity with component lifecycle management tools like SiliconExpert.
  • Knowledge of AEC-Q or JEDEC qualification standards.
