The role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) at Craig y Parc School

The HLTA supports the education and development of all pupils, contributing to learning plans, maintaining pupil data, and supporting the learning environment. They provide support through targeted interventions and assisting the wider learning support team, offering guidance and advice based on their experience and expertise.

Working hours are 8.30am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday, during term time only.

About The Role

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, term time only

Salary: £21,725 - £23,565 per annum

Job Responsibilities
Supporting Teaching and Learning
  1. Assist the Class Teacher with professional duties as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
  2. Understand the curriculum planning and contribute to delivering planned programmes, adapting activities as needed.
  3. Deliver high-quality, differentiated educational activities to help pupils reach their full potential.
  4. Support the daily running of classes and take the lead in the absence of a class teacher.
  5. Select and adapt resources to facilitate learning activities.
  6. Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  7. Participate in responsibilities such as displays, resource organization, risk assessments, and ICT support.
  8. Contribute to individual pupil plans and attend review meetings if requested.
  9. Support parental involvement and provide feedback on pupil progress.
  10. Take responsibility for specific roles such as risk assessment coordination, manual handling, MDT links, ICT, etc.
Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding
  1. Follow safeguarding policies to promote pupil welfare.
  2. Provide feedback on pupil behavior and relationships.
  3. Monitor and intervene in challenging behavior, recording incidents as necessary.
  4. Ensure personal care and monitor health and wellbeing, informing relevant professionals of concerns.
  5. Encourage independence and high standards of behavior.
  6. Support pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral, physical, and spiritual development.
  7. Assist with therapy or care programmes supervised by professionals.
  8. Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and professionals following a multidisciplinary approach.
  9. Attend to pupils’ personal needs, including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and eating.
Pupil Attainment and Progress
  1. Assess, record, and report on development and progress.
  2. Identify pupils’ needs and support their learning with specialist skills.
  3. Collaborate with staff and professionals involved with pupils’ education.
Monitoring and Recording Progress
  1. Participate in planning and evaluating learning activities.
  2. Provide feedback on attainment and progress.
  3. Monitor and record responses and achievements, reporting issues to the teacher.
  4. Complete documentation accurately for incidents, health, and behavior records.
