Qualifications

  • GMC registration and at least 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience in sexual health, paediatrics, GP, or Obs/Gynae is essential.

About The Role

Sexual Offences Examiner/Experienced Forensic Physician - Cumbria


Base Location: The Bridgeway, 2 Tynefield Drive, Penrith, CA11 8JA


This role primarily covers paediatric cases, with training in the adult service for resilience purposes. Travel is required, especially in the first 6 months for training at the paediatric centre in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Weekend and evening work are generally not required but may occur occasionally for resilience purposes. Some training may also occur at weekends.


Salary: £79,497-82,638 (pro rata)


Part-Time Role: 24 hours/week


Rota: 9:30-15:30 Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri (flexible days). Mix of on-call and office work.

As part of the Forensic Medical Programme, Mountain Healthcare offers a framework to develop key knowledge and skills applicable across various specialties, including A&E, GP, paediatrics, psychiatry, and forensic medicine.


As a Forensic Medical Examiner, you will undergo clinical placements, blended learning, and receive mentorship. An individualized education program will be provided, including clinical examinations and financial support during the post.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct forensic examinations and collect exhibits
  • Develop forensic strategies per FFLM guidelines
  • Collaborate with external MDTs and police
  • Serve as a point of contact for Police and Social Services regarding referrals
  • Perform holistic assessments (sexual health, mental health, safeguarding)
  • Contribute to service quality improvement
  • Work under Forensic Science Regulator standards
  • Obtain consent for health and forensic procedures

Travel for training days is necessary, with expenses covered.


Essential Skills
  • GMC-registered doctor
  • At least 3 years of relevant post-Foundation experience
  • Understanding of safeguarding children and adults
  • Knowledge of confidentiality principles
  • Experience in sexual health, paediatrics, GP, or Obs/Gynae
  • Female applicants only, due to the nature of the role (Sex Discrimination Act)
  • UK driving license and access to a vehicle
  • Advanced DBS and Level 2 police vetting (residency in UK for 3 years)
  • Medical indemnity from start date
