About the role

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering is seeking an ambitious and dynamic Senior Contracts Engineer to join our team. The role will be based in Central London from February until May 2025, and then at the Sizewell C site in Suffolk from June 2025 onwards.


Sizewell C is a £20B project aiming to create a 3.2 gigawatt power station that will generate low-carbon electricity for at least 60 years. It is located next to Sizewell B, which has been operational since 1995 and has avoided over 76 million tonnes of carbon emissions.


The works include extensive geotechnical activities such as:

  • SSSI Crossing with approximately £10m of Rotary Bored and precast piling
  • Ground improvement works worth approximately £100m, including Cutter Soil Mixing, Deep Soil Mixing, and Displacement auger piling

Support for ground support for temporary structures in the MCA.

What you'll be doing
  • Managing internal resources and subcontractors
  • Ensuring works are constructed according to contract, design information, drawings, specifications, and Project Management Plan
  • Producing and reviewing construction methods statements for efficiency and safety
  • Preparing site documentation such as PMP, PVPMP, ITP, Construction Phase Management Plan
  • Developing and working to programmes, measuring progress and productivity
  • Understanding and applying health, safety, and environmental procedures, promoting a safe working culture
  • Ensuring work is undertaken safely and in compliance with legislation and site plans, including risk assessments
  • Supporting and promoting behavioural safety on site
  • Monitoring progress, reporting, and achieving goals for assigned work
  • Anticipating and resolving engineering-related problems
  • Managing construction records, O&M manuals, and as-built drawings
  • Supporting company strategies such as 'Customer Focus', 'Construction Excellence', and 'Innovation'
  • Participating in client meetings and pre-contract meetings
Who we're looking for

The essential qualities/experience include:

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, across all levels
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • At least 5 years of experience in the construction industry
  • Experience in delivering civil engineering contracts of various scales
  • Ability to manage multiple teams and schemes efficiently
  • Knowledge of health and safety management, including Behavioural Safety
  • Leadership, communication, and influencing skills
  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification

Desirable qualities/experience include:

  • Experience working with piling, ground engineering, or civils subcontractors
  • A Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent
