As Resident Medical Officer, you'll play a crucial role providing on call cover for Cygnet Hospital Ealing. This is our 23 bed service offering personalised treatment for service users with an eating disorder or personality disorder over two separate wards.

We make use of a range of therapies including psychodynamic, family, occupational, art, drama and complementary therapies. We also believe very strongly in patient-centred care, and involve our service users in shaping their own treatment, and in all aspects of hospital life.

You'll be covering a mix of out of hours on call (5pm - 9am / weekends) and day shifts on both wards, with access to Consultant advice.

Main duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess new referrals and inpatients on admission by completing a thorough history and examination including physical examination.
  • To ensure physical health and mental health care of patients are being met doing reviews with the nursing staff whilst on call.
  • Liaise with the Consultant Psychiatrist on call when necessary for advice.
  • The post holder will be expected to prescribe and review medication with the support of the Consultant Psychiatrist on call when required.
  • Liaise with members of the MDT, GP's, relatives and other professional agencies as needed.
  • To do medical reviews on patients in seclusion or long term segregation.
  • To ensure patient notes and documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • The post holder will be supervised regularly by the Medical Director or their nominee to ensure their training needs are assessed and supported to help with their professional and personal development plans.
  • To ensure the Medical Director is kept updated in a timely manner regarding all clinical matters arising whilst on call by submitting appropriate handovers.
  • The Specialty Doctor role essentially involves working as a ward doctor providing the physical and mental health needs of inpatients under the clinical supervision of the respective consultant psychiatrist.
  • The SD role is to cover the ward doctors' planned leave between 9am to 5 pm when the RMO duties will be temporarily suspended.

We are looking for someone who is...
  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement, the ability to manage risk & know when to ask for help
  • Experienced in Psychiatry
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
