Qualifications

Overview

Horton, Inc. has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Focused) to work at our location in Westminster, SC. This job is onsite Monday-Friday.

Position Summary:

With general guidance from the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, works to define and implement plans that utilize personnel, facilities, equipment, and processes to achieve the desired quality and quantity of production at the most favorable cost.

Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Focus) Responsibilities:

  • Develops and improves production processes.
  • Works with plant staff to identify best in class production machining processes and/or methods.
  • Focuses on opportunities for improvement, which includes determining "bottlenecks" in the process, with a specific focus on production CNC turning and milling operations of both ferrous & non-ferrous materials.
  • Studies existing fixtures/tooling and develops new designs or modifications to improve accuracy, quality, and efficiency.
  • Designs and specifies new fixtures/tooling for plant processes and upgrades of current machines to improve accuracy, quality, and efficiency.
  • Develops cost/benefit analysis and layout for future capital purchases of machinery or development of new work cells in response to anticipated production capacity needs, writing proposals for capital improvements.

Assists with the preparation of cost estimates for given products by analyzing the production process and costing each step, providing information to be used by corporate engineering and sales staff for proposals and product pricing.

Designs manufacturing process for new parts or products and maintains process documentation when modifications to existing process are made.

  • Breaks down new & existing processes into steps, placing those steps in the correct sequence, and assigning the process to the most efficient available machine or cell.
  • Writes and reviews engineering change requests (ECO's) to determine whether proposed changes require process modifications and either recommends that the change be approved or recommends that the ECO not be approved based on lack of feasibility or excessive cost.
  • Changes process documentation to conform to new methods.
  • Works with supervisors to train production staff in the use of new methods.

Applies Mathematical Calculations & SPC Methods to determine manufacturing process & production cost standards. Routinely audits all processes, material flow paths, and routings to confirm standard cost accuracy.

  • Defines Continuous Improvement Activities to Ensure Competitive Advantage.
  • Shared Owner of Engineering Admin Systems: Oracle, ECO, BOM, ECR, NPJA Process, QMS Engineering Standards, NX Modeling Software, & Production Systems.
  • Assists with Capital Expenditure Justification, Asset Management, & ROI Tracking.
  • Troubleshoots and problem-solves to support all areas of the plant. Answers questions and helps production associates develop proper skills and techniques.
  • Follows APQP standards and uses quality tools to direct process improvement activity.

Other miscellaneous Manufacturing Engineering Tasks as assigned related to cost/benefit analysis, planning for future plant expansions, purchases of machinery, equipment moves, or development of new production areas in response to anticipated production growth.

Qualifications

Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Focus) Qualifications:

  • Requires a B.S. Degree in Engineering (or a technically related field) and 3 years of direct CNC manufacturing experience OR
  • Requires A.S. Degree in Machine Tool / Machining Technology and 5 plus years of direct CNC manufacturing experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. No Visa sponsorship provided now or in the future for this position.
