The role is primarily to ensure that the school environment is safe, clean and tidy, and attractive for our children, families and staff. The role requires good common sense, practical skills, and experience in using your initiative. The successful candidate must be a key holder and a contact for the school alarm systems, with a willingness to respond to call outs.

The hours for this role are 17.5 hours per week, including opening the school in the mornings and locking up late afternoon/evening for 44 weeks per year. This includes the 39 school weeks plus 5 weeks during school holidays (split across Christmas, Easter, and summer breaks). The position is to start as soon as possible, with some flexibility around hours and working weeks for the right candidate.

Main responsibilities include:

  1. Managing the day-to-day work of the cleaning team.
  2. Acting as a keyholder, unlocking the premises in the morning and securing it in the evening, and responding to alarm call-outs (overtime at time and a half is offered).
  3. Carrying out planned maintenance duties, providing access to contractors, ensuring security, and recording fire, intruder, and water checks in accordance with policies.
  4. Performing reactive maintenance to ensure safety and security, including gritting paths, site tidying, and responding to safety issues.
  5. Carrying out repairs and general maintenance, including basic DIY, decorating, carpentry, and minor plumbing, based on your skills.
  6. Relief cleaning as needed, assisting with deep cleans, window cleaning, and managing waste and recycling.
  7. Handling porterage duties, including receiving deliveries, setting up for events, manual handling, and working at height (training provided, experience preferred).
  8. Ensuring health and safety compliance and reporting unsafe activities.
