Job description

Fantastic opportunity with a global coatings manufacturing company to develop new polymer technology, formulate and test coatings for customers and support scale-up into production. You will have several years experience in an industrial laboratory focused on paints, coatings, inks, adhesives or polymer technology. You will be a key member of an international R&D team where communication, motivation and enthusiasm are essential for success.

Key Tasks
  1. Design and development of new coating materials
  2. Formulation work preparing multiple samples of coatings to establish effects of formulation variations
  3. Examining key properties of coatings - physical properties, chemical properties, electrical resistance properties.
  4. Testing performance of new raw materials to establish usefulness in new formulations.
  5. Use of Automated Selective Coating equipment to coat test specimens to check performance in environmental tests
  6. Visits to customer sites to trial developmental materials
Responsibilities
  1. Develop and validate new manufacturing processes
  2. Scale up of newly developed products
  3. Improvements to manufacturing processes to reduce costs
  4. Validate alternative sources of current materials
  5. Test performance of existing and new coating products to assist with customer material qualifications
  6. Assist Technical Support team to assist with customer technical enquiries
  7. Contribute towards QA Processes
  8. Ownership of all stages of new product introduction
  9. Preparation of customer technical reports and datasheets
  10. Manage collaborations with other department teams
Candidate Profile
  1. BSc or PhD in Chemistry or Material Science is preferred
  2. Experience of manufacture or testing of advanced chemical products such as coatings, adhesives, paints is preferred but not essential.
  3. Good understanding & experience of laboratory test methods
  4. Experience with Viscosity, Rheology, FTIR and related laboratory instruments advantageous
  5. Must possess a keen eye for detail
  6. Must be organised, methodical & able to prioritise
  7. Must be used to working in Project Team environment
  8. Must have the right to work in the UK, sponsorship is not available.
