Job Description

The successful candidate will join project process teams and will be responsible for process delivery across all stages of the design process.


The Process Department in Stockton services a wide range of industries in the UK and overseas, including Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemical, Chemicals, Pharmaceutical, as well as the power sector and emerging technologies such as Hydrogen and CCS in the energy transition market.


We seek an engineer with drive and commitment to improve our project performance across the full lifecycle, from studies through FEED and EPC, ensuring that Wood continues to differentiate itself by delivering quality projects that meet our clients' requirements.


Applicants with technical skills and experience in these markets are encouraged to apply. Relevant experience in a Process Lead Engineer role is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Support and occasionally substitute for the Lead Process Engineer in project delivery.
  • Ensure completion of deliverables and tasks assigned by the Lead Engineer.
  • Lead process design activities on smaller scopes, ensuring compliance with contractual, safety, and quality standards, and timely, within-budget delivery.
  • Understand and manage technical and commercial risks associated with project scopes.
  • Ensure designs satisfy operational and safety requirements, maintaining high safety standards and following Environmental and Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Execute tasks within budget and schedule, maintaining technical quality of work.
  • Review calculations and deliverables as assigned, ensuring adherence to Wood procedures.
  • Guide and support junior team members in their tasks.
  • Complete sizing calculations for hydraulics, vessels, tanks, pumps, control valves, and instrumentation; for Brownfield projects, include rating and sizing of pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Prepare safety-related calculations such as relief calculations.
  • Develop critical process deliverables: Basis of Design, PFDs, Mass and Energy Balances, Equipment specs, Design Philosophies, P&IDs, Line and Tie-in Lists.
  • Communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to complete tasks.
  • Participate in safety reviews like HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPAs as directed.
  • Attend technical meetings and contribute to supplier quotation reviews and documentation assessments to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Engage in continuous improvement and professional development to stay current with technology and meet task requirements.
Qualifications
  • Chemical Engineering Degree
  • Chartered Chemical Engineer status is preferred.
  • Experience in Conceptual, FEED, and EPC projects within Pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas, Energy, or Chemicals sectors. Experience with Carbon Capture and Hydrogen technologies is a bonus.
  • Experience with Brownfield and Greenfield projects.
  • Proven core Process Engineering skills and design experience.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, with high achievement drive, excellent communication skills, and organizational awareness. Committed to self-improvement and skill development.
  • Understanding of project delivery processes, ownership of tasks, and awareness of impacts across disciplines.
