Role description:

Our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record in leading environmental and consenting aspects of projects, especially in winning and delivering work in the Design and Build Sector.

You'll help improve quality of life through environmental management, technical, or sustainability expertise, working on issues like protected species, pollution, surface water, materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

We aim to protect our natural environment and water resources amid challenges like climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss, addressing large-scale events such as floods and wildfires.

Role accountabilities:

You will work on diverse projects including energy, infrastructure, rail, highways, water, and mixed-use developments for private and public clients, as well as public realm and masterplanning projects, requiring a nimble approach. We promote technical excellence, flexibility, and digital innovation, supporting your role in delivering multidisciplinary projects globally.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading coordination and delivery of planning/environmental work by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development for optimal outcomes with a strong understanding of the D&B process.
  2. Business development: creating project opportunities, leading project delivery, and expanding our portfolio in the D&B Sector, collaborating with upstream environmental and planning teams.
  3. Raising awareness of our services, winning new opportunities, and building contacts.
  4. Engaging with clients and stakeholders, fostering relationships, and creating cross-selling opportunities.
  5. Managing projects, overseeing technical, quality, commercial, and health & safety performance.
  6. Working closely with colleagues across Arcadis globally.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Deep knowledge of environmental and consenting processes, including EIA practices, case law, and sustainability principles.
  • Experience working with contractors and influencing sustainable design.
  • Experience across various project types.
  • Strong report writing, presentation, and review skills.
  • Leadership in multidisciplinary coordination and project management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating with authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Commercial skills including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree, preferably with chartered status or working toward it.
  • Flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative work approach.
