Job summary

The health visitor is responsible for a defined caseload of pre-school children and families within a geographic area or General Practice population.

The main purpose of the job includes the assessment of health needs, the implementation and evaluation of health-enhancing activities, and the generation of information to influence policies that affect health.

They have the freedom to practice/act within parameters guided by local and national policies, protocols, and the Code of Conduct.

Main duties of the job
  1. Ensuring the delivery of innovative, clinically excellent, evidence-based child health surveillance, health promotion, and other public health initiatives.
  2. Planning, delivering, and evaluating health visiting interventions in collaboration with statutory and voluntary agencies.
  3. Working as part of a team.
  4. Assisting the deputy senior nurse and working collaboratively with other health visitors within the University Health Board to ensure the delivery of equitable, high-quality services.
  5. Communicating effectively with multi-agency teams, statutory, and voluntary agencies; maintaining effective internal and external networks to enhance service delivery.
  6. Actively working with partner agencies to develop the public health approach, including participating in community development and establishing links within the Local University Health Board, Health Promotion, National Public Health Service, and other local projects.
  7. Planning and implementing individual programs of care in consultation with parents/carers and the wider community to protect health and enable health promotion screening.
  8. Acting as a specialized resource for primary care staff, statutory, and voluntary agencies, offering expert advice.
  9. Preparing reports for Child Protection Conferences, Guardian ad Litem, and the Courts with the support of the Safeguarding Team.
  10. Managing a defined health visiting caseload.
