Job Type: Permanent - £23,000 per annum

The opportunity: This is an excellent career development opportunity for someone with an interest in Teaching, Classroom Support, and Special Educational Needs. The role is based in a school for autistic children aged 4-19 years old that has been graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. You will be provided with access to a wide range of funded training and qualification opportunities in SEN education whilst gaining a breadth of experience with children of varying ages and abilities. The school uses behaviour-driven teaching strategies and interventions to encourage positive outcomes and student development. You will work within small classes individually and in groups, design, plan, and deliver teaching sessions to encourage pupils' learning and progression as well as improve their social and emotional development.

Summary:

  1. Aspiring SEN Teacher - Autism
  2. Permanent contract
  3. Salary: £21,000 - £23,000 (actual salary based on 39 working weeks)
  4. 35 hours per week - Monday-Friday 9am-4.30pm (5.30pm on Tuesdays for additional training)
  5. Part-time options are considered but you must work on Tuesday due to training
  6. Start in February 25 or sooner depending on your availability

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide teaching and support to our pupils, following individualised curriculums
  2. Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and activities, focusing largely on life skills
  3. Support pupils’ participation in trips, applying theory-based learning to practice
  4. Provide behaviourally based support to reduce behaviours that impact quality of life
  5. Provide personal care, encouraging pupils to maintain acceptable levels of hygiene (toileting, feeding)
  6. Monitor pupil progress, ensuring teaching is appropriate and effective for each child’s needs
  7. Assist with break time duties including playground support and snack time

Application Requirements:

  1. Professional, personal or voluntary experience of working with children and disabilities
  2. A Psychology degree is highly desirable but not essential
  3. Minimum Grade C/4 GCSE in English Language & Maths or equivalent
  4. Comfortable working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour
  5. Comfortable supporting others with personal/intimate care where required
  6. Ability to keep calm in high pressure situations
