At Dalbeattie High School we are not only committed to providing the very best educational experiences and opportunities, but also in developing our young people as leaders and responsible citizens who will positively impact the school and wider communities. We establish and cultivate partnerships with parents and carers; associated primary schools; members of the local community; other partners in learning and, most importantly, our young people.

We are looking to recruit a Technical Technician (10 hours per week, 39 weeks per year) on a fixed term basis for up to 1 year to provide technical support to staff and students. You will be responsible for the provision and maintenance of resources in an efficient and organised manner to facilitate practical learning with due regard for Health and Safety.

This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.

Please note this post is predominantly required to support practical work within the school Design and Technology department, e.g. Woodworking/Metalwork/Design and Manufacture. Appropriate qualifications and experience would therefore include mechanical engineering, joinery/woodworking, metal working, mechanical maintenance etc.

You must have a good standard of education, being educated to SCQF Level 6 or equivalent with an ongoing commitment or willingness to commit to Continuous Professional Development. Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and safe working procedures related to technical workshop environments is essential. You must be flexible and have the ability to work both independently as well as part of team. Good interpersonal skills are essential as is a full understanding of the need for absolute confidentiality.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
