Job description

As a People Regulation Manager, you will support the ongoing development and oversight of the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR), including the Conduct Rules within Nationwide. Your responsibilities will include developing tools, frameworks, and approaches, driving continuous improvement activities, and supporting the embedding of these regimes to enhance decision-making and governance across Nationwide. This role supports our Blueprint for a Modern Mutual.

This is an 18-month fixed-term contract within the People Function, part of the wider People Services team. You will develop initiatives and communications to embed SM&CR, refine related processes, and produce reporting and MI related to this regulation. You will act as a trusted advisor, providing expert guidance to relevant SM&CR populations, applying a sound understanding of regulatory expectations and industry best practices aligned with the Nationwide Strategy to achieve balanced outcomes.

We are open to flexible working arrangements to support your performance. The weekly hours can range from 30 to 35. Nationwide offers hybrid working, combining office presence with home working, with regular collaboration at our regional hubs in Swindon or London, at least quarterly.

What you'll be doing
  1. Partner with the business as the primary contact for SM&CR advice, managing operations, and simplifying processes while maintaining compliance.
  2. Support training and education on the regimes, keeping senior management updated on relevant requirements and updates.
  3. Collaborate with the People Function's Case Management team to assess Conduct Rule breaches, ensure fair decisions, and analyze thematic issues to drive understanding and change.
About you
  • Extensive experience of SM&CR and people regulation in Financial Services.
  • Ability to develop pragmatic solutions, take ownership, and work collaboratively at pace.
  • Strong relationships across all levels within Nationwide, including credibility with Exco.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complex messages.
  • Curious, detail-oriented, and focused on continuous improvement.
  • Passionate about people, culture, and delivering excellent employee and member experiences.

  • Get it done - Prioritize impactful actions and deliver results.
