Job summary

A local authority seeks a qualified Educational Psychologist for a 3-4 month part-time contract to support children aged 0-25 with special educational needs and disabilities. Job Summary:

• An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Educational Psychologist to support children and young people aged 0–25 with special educational needs and disabilities.

• The role involves delivering statutory and non-statutory psychological services using a range of evidence-informed approaches, in accordance with the Children and Families Act and the SEND Code of Practice.

• The postholder will work flexibly across individual, group and systems levels to promote positive outcomes and inclusive practices.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

• Undertake psychological assessments for statutory and non-statutory purposes.

• Deliver setting-based consultation, advice and interventions using a range of tools and methodologies.

• Provide psychological advice for Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNAs).

• Maintain a personal caseload, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality assessments.

• Work collaboratively with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals.

• Contribute to training, service development, and team planning.

• Maintain accurate records and adhere to ethical and professional standards.

• Participate in the supervision of Trainee or Assistant Psychologists as required.

• Support continuous improvement through reflective practice and quality assurance.

• Deliver presentations or training tailored to a range of stakeholders.

Skills/Experience:

• Experience working at individual, group, and systemic levels in educational settings.

• Ability to assess and understand the needs of children and young people aged 0–25.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-agency context.

• Knowledge of current legislation relevant to SEND and educational psychology.

• Competent ICT user, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and case management systems.

• Ability to work flexibly and travel independently.

• Full membership of the Association for Educational Psychologists or British Psychological Society.

• Experience supervising trainees or junior staff.

• Knowledge of inclusive practice models and multi-agency working.

Additional Information:

• Postgraduate professional qualification as an Educational Psychologist (BPS accredited).

• HCPC registration (or eligibility for registration).

• Enhanced DBS is required for this role.
