Educational Psychology Service - Building Bright Futures

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and families, with a strong commitment to equality and inclusion? Our Educational Psychology Service (EPS) operates on a foundation of core values like kindness, respect, and integrity.

Main duties of the job

We thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment where you'll have the opportunity to work alongside fellow Educational Psychologists, Trainees, and Assistant Psychologists.

As part of Wiltshire's Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) service, the EPS plays a vital role by offering diverse services, actively participating in decision-making processes, and contributing to county-wide initiatives. You will be encouraged to develop your skills through project work and our ongoing CPD programme. Connections to Southampton and Bristol Doctoral programmes provide frequent opportunities for trainee supervision.

In this role, you'll serve as the link EP for various educational settings, offering statutory advice and preventative work. For the next academic year, we will build on our innovative subscription model, further increasing support accessibility to schools and communities. Your strong values of equality, inclusion, and improving outcomes for all will be evident as you work with Wiltshire's young people, families, and settings.

Join our mission to positively impact the lives of children and families in Wiltshire.

About us

Wiltshire Council is a friendly, welcoming place to work, with a 'One Council' ethos. We focus on getting the things that matter to our people right.

Job responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Supporting schools, early years settings, families, and children and young people through assessment and consultation to facilitate positive outcomes for vulnerable children and young people and those with special educational needs.
  • Collaborating with other support services to deliver integrated, coordinated support built around the needs of children and young people.
  • Attending and participating in whole service, team meetings, peer supervision sessions, and professional training as required by the line manager.
  • Contributing to the delivery of effective training and interventions for professionals across various settings.
  • Providing Psychological Advice under the 1996 Education Act and contributing to Annual Reviews of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Carrying out other duties as may be allocated, commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • Working within the codes of conduct and ethics of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS) Division of Educational and Child Psychology.
  • Note: Wiltshire is a large rural authority, requiring frequent use of private transport. The role may involve remote work from direct line management, occasional meetings with participants holding conflicting views, and use of hot-desking hubs. Some assessment materials may be cumbersome or heavy.
