Job description

Buckinghamshire Council’s Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is expanding, and we want dynamic psychologists to be part of our thriving team.

Following successful recruitment and diverse service delivery to schools, the council has invested in permanently extending the service. This has created vacancies at the main grade level, including new senior posts.

In addition to the salary, you will receive a market premium of £2,500 per annum and a one-off Golden Hello payment of £2,000 after one year’s service. (Please note the Golden Hello is for external candidates only)

"Working in Buckinghamshire EPS is a real pleasure. I’m surrounded by a knowledgeable, caring, dedicated, and innovative team committed to making a positive difference in our communities. My line management has been exceptional, supporting my professional development and helping me meet local needs and address challenges in the profession. Anyone joining our team can expect a warm welcome!" - Dr Tiffany Kearns (Educational Psychologist)

"Working for a dynamic and vibrant EPS allows for growth and development at both individual and service levels. Having worked here for nearly 15 years, I’ve had opportunities to develop key interests to support children, families, and schools. Our strengths include delivering high-quality work, developing positive relationships, and fostering professional autonomy. It’s a forward-thinking service, and I’m excited about our future." - Dr Steph Noble (Educational Psychologist)

About us

Our large team includes Educational Psychologists (EPs), Assistant EPs, and Trainee EPs. Led by a dynamic leadership team, we offer excellent line management and progression opportunities. We operate a hybrid model of consultation and assessment, blending face-to-face and remote work.

Our non-statutory offer includes a link EP model to schools and countywide projects aligned with strategic goals, including:

  • School workforce development: supervision for Head Teachers, SEMH practitioners, and e-learning resources.
  • Support for vulnerable groups: drop-in sessions, EBSA pathway, and pilot projects on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in schools.
  • Early Years: supervision and development of SEMH support for young children.
  • Post 16: developing our post-16 offer with a new strategic lead.

We work closely with the Integrated SEND service, providing multi-professional problem-solving, supervision, and training. Our EPs benefit from clinical and peer supervision, promoting professional growth.

About the role

This role involves work at preventative, early intervention, and statutory levels across individual, family, school, and system levels. Contributing to EHC Needs Assessments is a key part, with protected time allocated for statutory work and projects.

We value individuality, creativity, and autonomy, allowing you to shape your role. The role is mobile, offering flexible scheduling, remote working, and office meetings as needed.

About you

We seek dynamic individuals with current psychological skills and a commitment to making a difference. Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and a desire to contribute to EP practice development are essential. Applications are welcome from Trainee EPs and those on the HCPC Register. Both full-time and part-time applications are considered.
