Job summary

Venn Group is seeking an experienced Solicitor specialising in education law to provide strategic legal advice to higher education institutions, colleges, and related organisations on governance, student and regulatory matters.

You will handle safeguarding challenges, data protection work, and regulatory advice on governance and mergers within the education sector, with the chance to influence policy developments.

Qualifications

• Experience in higher education policy and governance is essential.
• Strong track record advising higher education institutions, colleges, or educational bodies.
• Expertise in governance, investigations, student matters and data protection.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to HEIs, colleges and related bodies on governance, student and regulatory matters.
• Advise on data protection issues including FOI, data breaches and data sharing.
• Assist with governance obligations, regulatory compliance and risk mitigation for education sector clients.
• Support safeguarding obligations and related investigations for educational institutions and charities.

Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Solicitor specialising in education law.

This role provides strategic legal advice to higher education institutions, colleges, and related organisations on a broad range of governance, student, regulatory, and data protection matters.

Responsibilities:

• Support institutions in navigating regulatory and governance obligations affecting the education sector
• Advising international pathway providers on (a)their arrangements with universities, (b) registration with the Office for Students
• Safeguarding challenges and related litigation, including from the student as a consumer
• Data protection work together with freedom of Information, data breaches and data sharing
• Regulatory advice on mergers and acquisitions of clients in the education sector including with potential insolvencies and stress purchases
• Advise educational institutions and charities on safeguarding obligations and investigations

Requirements:

• Interest and knowledge in Higher Education policy, developments in the sector, sector news etc
• Ideally 5 or more years PQE with relevant experience
• Demonstrable track record advising higher education institutions, colleges, or other educational organisation
• Strong expertise in governance, investigations, student matters, and data protection
• Salary up to £120,00 DOE
