Ll Jnorth seeks a Senior Associate specialising in education law, based in one of the UK offices with a 50% hybrid model. You will provide strategic legal advice to higher education institutions, colleges, and related organisations on governance, student matters, regulatory issues, and data protection.

You will bring deep sector knowledge, handle safeguarding challenges, and support leadership teams through investigations, governance changes, and sector-wide thought leadership initiatives.

Formación

• Experience in education sector law and governance structures.
• Proven track record advising higher education institutions or similar bodies on safeguarding and data protection.

Responsabilidades

• Advise on governance obligations affecting education sector.
• Assist international pathway providers with university arrangements and OFS registration.
• Handle safeguarding challenges and related litigation.
• Provide data protection and FOI/Data sharing guidance.
• Advise on Freedom of Speech/No platforming litigation.
• Support student-related litigation as a consumer.
• Offer regulatory advice on education sector M&A and insolvencies.

THE FIRM

A major UK law firm with offices in several key locations.

THE ROLE

A Senior Associate specialising in education law is sought, with flexibility on location, to be based in one of the UK offices. The firm has a 50% hybrid working policy

This role will be to provide strategic legal advice to higher education institutions, colleges, and related organisations on a broad range of governance, student, regulatory, and data protection matters.

You will need to have a deep understanding of the education sector, supporting institutions through complex governance, safeguarding, and student-related challenges.

Responsibilities:

1. Support institutions in navigating regulatory and governance obligations affecting the education sector
2. Advising international pathway providers on (a) their arrangements with universities, (b) registration with the Office for Students
3. Safeguarding challenges and related litigation
4. Data protection work together with freedom of Information, data breaches and data sharing
5. Advice around Freedom of Speech/No platforming and related litigation
6. Litigation from the student as a consumer
7. Regulatory advice on mergers and acquisitions of clients in the education sector including with potential insolvencies and stress purchases
8. Advise educational institutions and charities on safeguarding obligations and investigations.
9. Support leadership teams in responding to historic and current safeguarding concerns involving staff, students, and volunteers.
10. Contribute to sector thought leadership and client engagement initiatives

ABOUT YOU

With an interest in and knowledge of Higher Education policy, developments in the sector, sector news, you will be a lawyer with 6pqe+.

You will demonstrate a track record advising higher education institutions, colleges, or other educational organisations along with strong expertise in governance, investigations, student matters, and data protection.
