Job description

Service Care Solutions are working alongside West Northamptonshire Council who are looking for an experienced Education Funding Team Manager to join their team on a temporary contract. Please find a description of the role below.

Role: Education Funding Team Manager
Location: Northampton
Rate: £270 per day (umbrella/ltd)
Contract: 3 months on going
Working: Hybrid, Full-time

Job Purpose:
Lead the Education Funding Team to ensure timely and accurate processing of education payments across Children and Young People’s Services (CYP). Oversee funding systems, manage risks, and support service managers with financial matters. Drive continuous improvement in funding processes and compliance with corporate financial standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all education-related payments are processed accurately and on time.
  • Lead business continuity and risk management for CYP funding, escalating issues as needed.
  • Oversee the allocation of High Needs funding in line with agreed processes.
  • Collaborate with Schools Finance and support accurate DSG funding submissions and distributions.
  • Respond to FOIs, benchmarking, and data requests within deadlines.
  • Provide strategic input and financial data to support management meetings and service planning.
  • Advise on High Needs funding developments at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Recruit, manage, and develop the Education Funding Team.
  • Maintain financial records and ensure audit compliance.
  • Support monthly budget monitoring, highlighting pressures and providing evidence-based forecasts.
  • Manage complex financial processes and provide guidance to internal teams and education providers.
  • Ensure systems are followed to promote accuracy, authorisation, and data integrity.
  • Provide financial support across all CYP services to ensure income and payments are managed effectively.
  • Promote health and safety and comply with council policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of education funding and local authority operations
  • Experience in managing complex financial processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams, and financial systems
  • Knowledge of Data Protection, Equal Opportunities, and health & safety legislation
  • Understanding of budget management and council policies
  • Experience with local authority finance and education systems
