Job description

We are looking for an inspirational coach to join our amazing charity which makes a positive impact on the lives of children and young people. The role involves using the power of sport and physical activity to positively engage young people in both schools and communities.

About Education & Community Sports Coach

Hours: 37 hours per week (can include start and finish times between 7.30am-7pm and occasional weekends)

Location: Schools and Community venues located across South Yorkshire

The Education and Community Sports Coach will:

  1. Deliver sessions in schools and communities in line with the national curriculum.
  2. Help to use sport and skill development as a tool for social change including employability skills developed through engaging in Sport and Physical Activity.
  3. Plan engaging and innovative activities using either sport, physical activity, and skill development.
  4. Provide children and young people with great experiences using the power of sport.
  5. Demonstrate the effectiveness of sport and skill development.
  6. Maintain good relationships with key stakeholders - children, parents, business managers, school teachers, headteachers, PE leads and community venues.
  7. Use pupil voice and insight to design interventions that meet the needs of young people.
  8. Use ICT to monitor and evaluate programmes to measure impact and demonstrate outcomes.
  9. Understand the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
  10. Work with National Governing bodies of sport (NGBs) and other relevant sport development agencies.
  11. Understand the principles of safeguarding, child protection and working with vulnerable adults.

The successful candidate will have experience in:

  1. Leading sessions of sport and physical activity within school, alternative provision and community/youth settings.
  2. Maintaining relationships with key contacts in schools and community organisations.
  3. Using various approaches to change attitudes to sport and physical activity in local communities.
  4. Developing positive relationships and outcomes for young people that demonstrate challenging behaviour, at risk of becoming NEET or are within Alternative Provision.
  5. Mentoring and supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes through PE, Sport and Physical Activity.
  6. Supporting people to become involved in the preparation, planning and delivery of sport and exercise.
  7. Communicating clearly with a range of different groups in a range of different ways.
  8. Adapting to different situations and using initiative to problem solve.
  9. Building partnerships with local communities, businesses, and other relevant stakeholders.
  10. Ensuring that provision is inclusive, customer-focused and accessible.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  3. A willingness to work as a team but also individually.
  4. An appetite to learn and develop personally and professionally.

  6. Ability to travel independently to various locations across South Yorkshire.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have any one of the following: a multi skills level 2 coaching qualification, Level 2 National Governing Body of Sport or Community/Higher sports leaders' awards qualifications.
  • Candidates without level 2 (or equivalent) will need to achieve this before the final assessment.
  • Active Fusion will offer opportunities for the ideal candidate to undertake training within the role including an Apprenticeship Level 2-4.

  1. A full driving license and having primary access to a vehicle (as travel between venues is required).
