Job description

Barts Health - Education Academy Fellow - Obstetrics and Gynaecology One post based at Whipps Cross Hospital - 12 months

Barts Health Simulation Service has four dedicated Simulation and Essential Clinical Skills Centres based at Newham University Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital, St Bartholomew's and the Royal London. Each of these centres has a proud history of being innovative and award winning. These departments are teaching areas with fully equipped simulation and clinical skills teaching and Haptic Clinical Skills facilities.

The successful post holder for this post will be involved primarily with developing educational opportunities for Obstetrics and Gynaecology through a wide range of teaching modalities including simulation based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics and bedside teaching.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainees with NHS experience (ST5 and above) with an interest in Medical Education, and Simulation. The post would be based at the Whipps Cross site which is part of Barts NHS Trust.The post will have opportunities to be involved in other teaching programmes including undergraduate medical trainees, Foundation Trainees, and interdisciplinary simulation training.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows. All fellows joining our team will be invited to join our Education Forum where fellows have access to a structured development programme. All our fellows are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. For those who already have this there will be an opportunity to undertake ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course). Funding will be available towards supporting this.

Job responsibilities

The contract is 12month, fixed-term starting October 2025 and is 40:60 teaching and service delivery. 40 % of the time will be dedicated to Education Delivery. 60% of the time will be undertaken within the chosen Clinical Speciality. This is a 40 hour week contract with banding to a maximum of 1B. You will be expected to have at least five years of accredited basic general obstetrics and gynaecology training to the level of ST5 or equivalent. Desired candidates should have Full MRCOG membership and work as a senior registrar in the clinical elements of the job.This would typically suit anyone wishing to undertake further training in a medical specialty and education prior to or as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist Registrar training programme, or a Post CCT/ CESR doctor looking to develop their CV ahead of applying for consultant jobs. Successful candidates must have experience working in the NHS. For the latter prior agreement must be sought with the relevant Specialty Training Committee (STC) and Deanery. GMC and UK NHS clinical experience are essential criteria for this roleThe post will have opportunities to be involved in other teaching programmes including undergraduate medical trainees, Foundation Trainees, and interdisciplinary simulation training.
