Job Title: Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) – Generic Worker with Children’s Experience
Location: Lambeth Council
Rate: £43.00 per hour
Contract Type: Locum / Agency
Working Hours:
- Typically 2 x 12-hour shifts per week
- Shift times: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- No guaranteed hours, but regular weekly shifts are likely
Start Date: ASAP
Role Overview: Lambeth Council is seeking to appoint an experienced
Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) who also possesses
children’s social work experience. This is a unique and flexible opportunity to work as part of a dedicated team during
out-of-hours shifts, responding to urgent and complex situations involving children and families.
Key Responsibilities:- Undertake AMHP duties in line with the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended)
- Respond to emergency mental health assessments during allocated night shifts
- Apply knowledge and experience in children’s safeguarding and family assessments
- Liaise effectively with internal teams, police, health professionals, and emergency services
- Accurately complete statutory documentation and ensure timely recording of all actions
Requirements:- Qualified and Approved AMHP (registration required)
- Previous experience in children’s social work (including statutory work)
- Ability to work independently and manage high-pressure situations
- Willingness to work flexible night shifts as part of a rota
- Enhanced DBS and right to work in the UK
Desirable:- Strong understanding of safeguarding protocols for children and young people
- Previous experience in an out-of-hours or emergency duty setting
Working Conditions:- Shifts are night-based (6 PM – 6 AM)
- Hybrid options are not available due to the nature of the role
- Supportive team environment with access to relevant training where appropriate
