Job description

Hours Full time (37.5 hours per week), some evenings and weekend work required

Copywriting
• To create compelling, interesting, brand-consistent and beautifully written copy for all marketing and
communications collateral, output and campaigns, internal and external. This will include brochures, both
online and print, social media captions, external advertorial and editorials, digital content marketing
campaigns, advertisement copy, press releases and reports, website articles and newsletter items.
• Act as brand messaging champion, telling the schools’ stories in a medium- and audience-appropriate style,
adapting the tone of voice, style and messaging for our wide range of different platforms and audiences.
• To work closely with the Design and Visual Content Officer to create seamlessly integrated communications
which attract, delight and engage both existing and new audiences.
• Working with and taking guidance from the Digital Marketing Officer, write and adapt copy for SEO to ensure
content increases our overall search rankings and engagement.
• Working with the Director of Marketing and Communications, compile and write compelling submissions to
relevant industry awards with a view to securing high profile third-party recognition as a leading school.

Newsletter, magazines and other school publications
• To draft and compile weekly newsletters and articles.
• To contribute to, and support the production of, The Elthamian twice-yearly magazine and any other digital or
print publications.

Social media strategy, story planning and creation
• Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, wider marketing team, as well as
individual school leaders, to develop, write and own individual schools’ and Family of Schools’ social media
strategy.
• To create, manage and implement a social media and content forward planner across all schools.
• To work with the Design and Visual Content Officer to produce inspiring, timely and engaging social media
posts in line with overall strategic objectives and reflective of the richness of school life.

Content campaign planning and creation
• Working closely with the Digital Marketing Officer and Design and Visual Content Officer, to plan and deliver
engaging copy to digital content campaigns – copy which attracts and delights all stakeholders and audiences.
• Working with the Digital Marketing Officer, to use data and campaign learnings to further refine and test
storytelling options and develop ever tighter and more productive, effective campaigns.
• Working with the Director of Marketing and Communications, develop a programme of editorial content
across appropriate print publications, liaising with the Design and Visual Content Officer to ensure copy is
illustrated with excellent imagery.

PR and influencer engagement
• In conjunction with the Director of Marketing and Communications, to develop a PR and influencer strategy.
• To create, manage and implement an external communications forward planner and calendar – alongside our
social media equivalent – working with the Design and Visual Content Officer to plan for and put together
outstanding packages of tailored content for onward distribution.
• To write and distribute press and media releases and develop strong relationships with local media and
networks to maximise coverage of our schools’ stories and engagement activities, building their profile as the
leading schools in southeast London.
• Alongside the Director of Marketing and Communications, to help build relationships with national and
education media, developing and pitching editorial ideas and writing engaging, informed copy as required to
position Eltham as a thought-leader and educational contributor of authenticity and substance.
General marketing contribution
• To support the Director of Marketing and Communications in overseeing/planning/preparing school events
including Open Days and evenings and visitor mornings, and to attend these and assist in running.
• To act internally as Senior School ‘champion’, maintaining a strong relationship with the senior team and
ensuring that Senior School activity is fully represented in social media and content forward planning.
• To provide editorial flair and creativity to the general working of the Marketing and Communications team,
inputting into, advising on or undertaking wider projects where appropriate.
• As with all other members of the team, to be prepared and able to stand in for colleagues and to update our
website and social channels, produce newsletters and other critical daily activity as necessary.
Brand identity
• Working with the Director of Marketing and Communications, to contribute to and support the evolution of
the schools’ brand identity and guidelines

Skills and Experience Required

Essential:
• Proven and demonstrable writing and editorial skills and a proven track record in putting these to use
successfully in a fast-paced working context.
• Demonstrable creative passion, full of ideas, with interest and understanding of trends and key issues, whether
in education or social media.
• The ideal candidate will love working with words, both as a writer and editor. They will have experience of
adapting tone of voice and tailoring messaging for a range of different audiences with knowledge of, and
experience working with, print, online content, and social media.
• Excellent writing, grammar and proof-reading skills and the ability to persuade and influence multiple
stakeholders are essential. Attention to detail is a key attribute needed for this role.

• Fabulous interpersonal and communication skills – a team player who inspires creativity in others.
• Excellent time-management and ability to plan for, and meet, deadlines.
• Willingness and ability to work outside standard hours when needed

Preferred:
• Ideally a graduate and preferably (but not mandatory) a journalism, creative writing or similar
communications-related qualification.
• Knowledge / experience of working in the education sector.
