Job Description:

Editorial Assistant – Ebury Self

Are you a great team player, highly organised, and thrive in busy environments? Do you want to work on books that change lives?

We are recruiting an Editorial Assistant to join a dynamic and fast-growing team at Ebury Self, part of Ebury, the UK’s largest non-fiction publisher.

About the team/business area

Ebury Self, through our Vermilion, Rider, and Happy Place imprints, is one of the most commercially successful parts of Penguin Random House and is home to world-leading authors across personal development, health, and spirituality. Our roster includes Peter Attia, Brené Brown, Fearne Cotton, Kirsty Gallagher, Glennon Doyle, Deepak Chopra, and Gabor Maté.

We seek an enthusiastic and proactive Editorial Assistant to support our team in creating bestselling books that inform, empower, and inspire new directions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing general office administration, including booking meeting rooms, arranging couriers, minuting meetings, processing expenses and invoices, sending out proof mailings, and arranging author copies.
  • Managing diary schedules for Publishing Directors and the team, organizing meetings, book fairs, and trips.
  • Overseeing the internal book process from acquisition to publication, ensuring deadlines are met, and managing related spreadsheets and reports using Excel and Biblio.
  • Maintaining accurate data entry on publishing systems.

You don’t need prior publishing experience but should have a positive attitude, be a strong team player, and ideally have a passion for our focus areas (personal development, health, parenting, faith, spirituality).

What you’ll bring

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in remote and in-person settings
  • A proactive approach to anticipating deadlines and assisting team members to keep projects on track

Disability Confident

If you participate in our disability scheme, you must meet the above criteria for consideration. Please note, not all eligible candidates may be interviewed due to application volume.

Application instructions

Please submit your CV and cover letter explaining why you are suitable by 11:59 pm on 23rd May 2025. Include a paragraph about a recent empowering book you’ve read.

Ensure your cover letter is no more than two pages. We are looking to fill this role quickly but can accommodate a reasonable notice period for the right candidate.

Our recruitment process includes a virtual first interview and an in-person second interview. We are happy to discuss further during the process.

What you can expect from us

We value our people and promote a culture of responsibility and recognition. Our UK offices are collaborative spaces, but we also support flexible working, requiring the successful candidate to work in our London office at least two days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and remotely for three days.

About Penguin

As the UK’s largest publisher, with around 2,000 employees and over 1,500 books published annually, we embrace talent from all backgrounds. We strive to innovate within the industry and produce books that reach everyone because a book can change anyone.
