Job summary

A leading publishing organization in London is seeking an Editorial Assistant to manage manuscript submissions and support the editorial workflow. You will ensure timely processing while assisting authors, editors, and reviewers. The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level and possess exceptional multitasking and communication skills, preferably with knowledge of scientific publishing. This position is hybrid, offering a dynamic work environment.

About the Editorial Support Team

The Editorial Support Team sits within the Editorial Operations Division, supporting the Springer Nature Journals group by connecting the editorial and publishing needs of the journals portfolios to the systems and processes that support them. The primary function is to provide editorial support to authors, editors (internal and external), and peer reviewers from submission to acceptance.

About The Role

Nature Research is hiring an Editorial Assistant! You will manage the processing of manuscripts from submission to acceptance, support workflow standardization, improve efficiencies, and assist authors, editors, and reviewers.

This role offers career development opportunities through various levels of editorial administration and operational management. While it does not involve content writing or editing, it provides valuable insights into scientific editorial and peer review processes.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage manuscript flow from submission to acceptance using the manuscript tracking system (MTS), perform quality checks, and ensure legal forms are collected.
  2. Support MTS for authors, reviewers, and editors, troubleshoot system issues, and escalate as needed.
  3. Liaise with stakeholders via email and telephone, maintaining professionalism and helpfulness.
  4. Update and maintain accurate information within databases.
  5. Assist with editorial reports and other workflow tasks.
  6. Provide team cover during absences.
Requirements
  1. Degree or equivalent qualification.
  2. Ability to manage databases and multitask efficiently.
  3. Proven ability to meet targets and deadlines.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. Relationship management skills with stakeholders.
  6. Experience in a fast-paced office environment.
  7. Knowledge of scientific publishing processes.
