Clarkson Owens Recruitment is supporting a client in Edinburgh in their search for an experienced Civil Engineer specialising in highways and drainage. The role focuses on delivering high-quality designs across diverse projects, with a strong emphasis on innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

This blended office/home pattern is a hybrid arrangement, requiring collaboration with design teams and engagement with clients.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent).
• Chartered status or working towards chartership.
• 3+ years experience in highways and drainage design.
• Experience in civil engineering design environments, ideally in consultancy.
• Experience using Civil 3D (or equivalent) for highways/earthworks and InfoDrainage for drainage design.

Responsibilities

• Produce highways and drainage designs across multiple projects.
• Provide technical expertise and specialist advice to colleagues and clients.
• Undertake design risk assessments and contribute to hazard workshops.
• Coordinate with other design disciplines for integrated solutions.
• Assist with civil engineering tenders and develop design strategies.
• Identify project risks and opportunities and propose mitigations.
• Coordinate procurement of specialist subcontractors and suppliers.
• Prepare and coordinate tender deliverables and documentation.
• Liaise with clients and design teams throughout projects.
• Attend design team, client and site meetings as required.
• Maintain proactive communication with project stakeholders.
• Share technical knowledge and support development of junior staff.
• Keep up to date with technical knowledge and professional development.
• Contribute to business development and client relationship management.
