Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sea and Road Freight Operator with experience in customs processes and compliance. This role involves managing the end-to-end movement of cargo via sea and road, ensuring all shipments meet regulatory and customs requirements. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in freight coordination, a strong knowledge of import/export regulations, and the ability to maintain accurate documentation throughout the shipping cycle.

Key Responsibilities

1. Coordinate sea and road freight shipments, including booking, loading, documentation, and final delivery.
2. Manage communication with carriers, hauliers, freight forwarders, and customers to ensure on-time performance.
3. Track and monitor shipment progress, proactively resolving delays or issues.
4. Prepare and submit customs declarations and supporting documentation for import and export shipments.
5. Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, international trade laws, and HS Code classifications.
6. Liaise with customs brokers, border agencies, and government bodies for smooth customs clearance.
7. Manage commodity codes, duty/tax calculations, and handling of controlled or restricted goods.
8. Maintain organized records for customs entries and audits.
9. Stay updated on changes in customs regulations and ensure compliance.
10. Generate and manage shipping documents such as Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, and Certificates of Origin.
11. Input and manage shipment data in internal systems with accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

• Experience in freight forwarding or logistics, with knowledge of customs procedures.
• Strong understanding of sea and road freight operations, Incoterms, and international trade requirements.
• Experience with customs declaration systems (e.g., CHIEF, CDS).
• Familiarity with import/export documentation and tariff classification.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reporting.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple shipments and deadlines.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
