Birmingham Museums Trust (BMT) is seeking a skilled Director of Finance to support their next strategic phase of growth, innovation and creativity. The next Director of Finance will support BMT as they drive forward change and support the presentation of their collections in new and exciting ways.

Birmingham Museums oversees the running and operation of nine sites across Birmingham. These are:

Birmingham Museums Trust has an enviable reputation within the heritage community. The Trust have an incredible track record of engaging with schools and their rich and diverse communities, achieved through the fantastic wealth of collections exhibited at each of their sites, which tell the stories of the people of Birmingham and the surrounding area from the recent and distant past. At its core, the purpose of the collections, and buildings which house them, is to use stories to make these collections come alive to every visitor walking through their doors today.

Led by an inspirational executive and two forward-thinking Co-CEOs, their vision is clear: To ensure that history is for all and that all voices are heard at the table, and represented in their stories and collections.

About the role

Reporting to the Co-CEOs, the Director of Finance will provide outstanding financial and business partnering support, which will in turn enable the delivery of BMT’s strategic goals. Versed in devising long-term strategic financial and operational planning as well as short-term financial management, you will be able to partner with and support the leadership team to ensure that the most impact is achieved.

With scrupulously high standards, you will drive the quality and transparency of financial management and reporting. You will also maintain high financial confidence across BMT, both internally and with its partners and at Board level. The Director of Finance will secure robust financial controls and uphold an already excellent

framework around which the financial operation of the organisation sits. Leading on the annual budgeting and forecasting, you will balance operational requirements with financial rigour. Alongside the Co-CEOs, you will agree on core budgets and deliver on financial plans.

As a team leader possessing the skills required for collaborative vision leadership, you will work hard to cultivate a fulfilling working environment for the finance staff and all other members of the wider team. You will provide effective line management to the finance team, agreeing and reviewing annual performance objectives.

As a qualified Chartered Accountant, you will have experience in clearly articulating financial matters and translating this across all levels of the business and to a variety of stakeholders.

Joining this fantastic team of engaged individuals, the next Director of finance must have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Adept at people management with the ability to contribute and drive the positive and engaging work culture at BMT. Skilled at developing and leading highly motivated diverse teams, you must be comfortable with operations in an environment of trust and openness.

The next Director of Finance must act with a high degree of personal integrity, in a diverse and rich cultural environment. Gaining trust and respect, the team will look to you to lead everyone on a journey towards a joint goal.

With a sound understanding of planning and delivering on all financial matters, you will bring an understanding of these key functions around finance:

• Charity Legislation
• Corporate governance
• Insurance
• Finance and Cash Management
• Procurement

With experience at Board level, you must be comfortable with presenting to boards and with the ability to develop strategy and present business plans. The next Director of Finance must also have experience operating at a senior level and be adept at bringing their influence and skills to the executive function of a similar organisation. A high EQ and a demonstrable track record of building, developing a team, and leading high-performing teams will be advantageous.
