West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Locum Consultant in Medical Microbiology and Virology for a 12-month fixed-term position. The role involves providing an efficient clinical microbiology service, leadership in infection management, and collaboration with a dedicated team. An opportunity has arisen for a 12-month fixed-term locum consultant (10 PA) to join the microbiology team at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The appointee will work alongside Consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective clinical microbiology and infection service, including infection control for laboratory users.
The department offers the chance to collaborate with three Consultant Microbiologists in a major department within one of the larger trusts in East England. The laboratory has advanced molecular diagnostics capabilities, notably for SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses, with a robust pandemic response.
The post holder will share responsibilities with Consultant colleagues for providing a 24-hour telephone on-call advisory service on infection management, currently on a 1:4 rota. This role involves leadership within the Trust on infection management, offering expert support for microbiological diagnosis and therapy, and advising on investigations for individual patients. The candidate should demonstrate leadership, motivation, excellent communication, and teamwork skills.
