About Us

At Orbis Education & Care, Summergil School in Powys offers specialist education and support for children with complex needs, including autism and learning disabilities. We are currently looking for a passionate and skilled PBS Practitioner to join our team, helping to improve the quality of life for the children we support through the implementation of evidence-based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of young people in a supportive and nurturing environment, including working with early years children to support their development from the beginning.

About The Role

As a PBS Practitioner, you will play a vital role in supporting and guiding our staff teams to provide positive behaviour support for the children we care for, including early years. You will conduct functional assessments, develop PBS plans, and provide direct and indirect interventions to ensure the children’s needs are met. In addition, you will offer guidance and training to staff and carers, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible care and support is provided across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialist Assessments: Undertake comprehensive behavioural assessments, using a variety of methods such as structured observations, interviews, and rating scales, to develop effective PBS plans tailored to each child. This will include early years children to ensure early interventions are in place.
  • Behavioural Interventions: Create and implement evidence-based strategies to address challenging behaviours, ensuring interventions are person-centred and focused on promoting positive outcomes for the children.
  • Consultation and Training: Provide expert advice and training to staff, families, and other professionals on PBS, positive behaviour management, and strategies for supporting children with complex needs.
  • Collaborative Working: Work alongside multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to develop and review PBS plans, ensuring a coordinated approach to the child’s education and care.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress of interventions, providing professional reports and feedback on their effectiveness.
  • Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and ensure that PBS plans incorporate effective risk management strategies to promote the safety and well-being of all individuals.
  • Promote Person-Centred Care: Lead by example, fostering a person-centred approach within the school and encouraging a supportive, positive environment for both staff and children.
  • Cultural Leadership: Promote a culture of understanding, respect, and positivity, encouraging staff to embrace person-centred values and proactive approaches to managing challenging behaviours.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience working with children with learning disabilities, autism, and complex behavioural needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) theory and its practical application.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in services supporting children with challenging behaviours, ideally within an educational or residential setting.
  • Ability to conduct functional assessments and develop personalised PBS plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience of working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for work-related travel.

Desirable

  • Enrolment in or completion of a PBS qualification, or relevant professional qualifications such as a Diploma in PBS / ABA.
  • Experience in delivering training to staff on PBS and behavioural management.
  • Knowledge of current best practices and guidelines for managing challenging behaviours, including restraint reduction.

Benefits

  • Career progression opportunities with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Health plan available after probation.
  • Eligibility for a "Blue Light Card" offering discounts across a wide range of services.
