Under the leadership of Professor Johann de Bono, we are seeking to appoint a Biological Specimen Coordinator to join the Drug Development Unit (DDU) within the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and Royal Marsden.

About the DDU:

The DDU undertakes industry-sponsored early phase clinical trials of new anticancer drugs. We are a world-class clinical trials unit with a dedicated ward within the Royal Marsden Hospital, focused on developing novel cancer therapeutics to improve patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collect, catalog, and process clinical samples, primarily tumor and blood specimens.
  2. Develop, implement, and review tracking systems for tissue samples, ensuring compliance with Human Tissue Act (HTA) and Good Clinical Practice UK Regulations.
  3. Ensure all procedures meet regulatory standards and handle tissue retrieved for central review from UK and international centers.
  4. Collaborate closely with staff from the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust Tissue Collection Facility.
  5. Occasionally travel to the Chelsea site for biopsy tissue collection.
Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc in biomedical sciences or equivalent.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Experience with laboratory molecular biology techniques, knowledge of FFPE samples and circulating plasma DNA, and handling clinical samples are desirable.
Additional Information

This is a fixed-term contract for one year, based mainly at our Sutton site, with occasional travel to Chelsea. Benefits include generous annual leave and a pension.
