Job description

Summary of Role

The TJBCM Fellowships are designed for applicants nearing the completion of training in clinical or medical oncology. Applicants must demonstrate the skills and experience outlined in the person specification.

The fellowship provides extensive clinical experience with novel targeted therapies and all aspects of Phase 1 trial conduct over twelve months. It emphasizes longitudinal management of brain tumours and encourages understanding of a multidisciplinary approach, including observational learning from various disciplines.

The aim of the Tessa Jowell Drug Development Unit Fellowship is to offer a unique opportunity for medical or clinical oncology trainees to gain specific experience in early clinical trials focused on neuro-oncology. The post offers:

  • Extensive clinical experience with novel targeted therapies in oncology (clinics, ward work, and consultant rounds)
  • Experience in all aspects of Phase 1 trial conduct, including protocol development, trial setup, GCP-compliant trial conduct, clinical and administrative management, dose escalation decisions, and correlation of clinical and laboratory findings such as pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Therapies explored are often at an early stage, including immune-oncology, DNA damage-response therapies, targeted therapies, and other innovative strategies.

Participants may also engage in projects leading to publications and presentations at national and international meetings. For suitable candidates, there is an opportunity to develop grant applications and translational research proposals for higher degrees (MD/PhD).
