Job description

Teaching and Learning Support Assistant – May start

Phonics Specialist - Experience required in Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds

Experience required in planning and delivering small grouped intervention sessions centred around Reading and Writing development.

Qualifications:

  1. Level 2 qualifications or above is a necessity.

A small school in the heart of Fulwood, Preston has approached Teaching Personnel to source a specialist Teaching and Learning Support Assistant to work alongside the class teacher, planning and delivering high-quality phonics intervention sessions. The role is to work from May half term in the Year 1 and Year 2 class (AM’s only). The successful candidate will have good experience working in lower primary years and will be someone who can use their own initiative to raise standards in Reading and Writing. The school aims to achieve their best ever KS1 Reading and Writing results, and to ensure this, the Head teacher and SENCO have selected a number of children who would benefit from an intense booster programme.

On a daily basis, you will be working with children aged 5-7 years. These children are mainly working at lower than expected age-related levels for Reading and Writing. The majority of children in the two classes come from socially deprived backgrounds and have little academic support at home. There are some behavioural needs in the two classes, so it is important that you can use a range of strategies to ensure poor behaviour does not impact learning and the development of the children’s Reading and Writing.

The school in Fulwood, Preston is easily accessible from Blackpool and other surrounding areas and is perfect for public transport links. There are already a number of staff working in school through Teaching Personnel, and the general reviews are positive for the way the Head teacher runs the working day. The School is graded GOOD by Ofsted from a recent inspection, and within the report, the Head teacher was commended for her ‘attention to detail’ and the ‘positive relationships she builds with the children, their parents, and the staff in school’.

In order to apply for this role, you must have the following:

  1. An accredited Level 2 qualification in Teaching and Learning in Schools.
  2. Prior experience in a KS1 class, supporting children with additional needs or with Reading and Writing.
  3. Flexibility to work on a part-time basis - 3.5 hours a day, Monday to Friday.
  4. A Child Workforce DBS on the update service.
  5. GCSE C or above in Maths and English.

The School has also specified that it would be preferable to have the following:

  1. Training in Phonics delivery either in Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds.
  2. Prior experience in delivering small grouped Reading and Writing interventions.
  3. Experience working alongside children with challenging behaviour and special educational needs.

If you are interested in the above role and you have suitable experiences and qualifications, then please do not hesitate to apply via the apply now button. Competitive rates of pay starting at £13.75 per hour.
