3D CAD Designer

Our client, a successful manufacturing business close to Norwich, is currently seeking a CAD Designer to join their team. This is a full-time role, based in Norwich, working 9:00am – 6:00pm Mon – Fri. Due to seasonal variations, these hours can be variable.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

1. Able to commute reliably to office base.
2. Must have clean or near clean driving license.
3. Must have a good knowledge of 3D CAD and a working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
4. Understands the principles of design, engineering and showcasing portfolios.
5. Engineering skills preferred but not essential.
6. Must be adept in use of CAD and other 3D software packages.
7. Working knowledge of Microsoft packages - particularly Excel, Word, Internet and email.
8. Additional computer-based knowledge would be an advantage. Able to understand basic business finance concepts and calculations. Must be a competent writer of business emails, quotations and proposals.
9. Must be an excellent telephone communicator of technical data with the ability to deal face-to-face with customers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design Development:
   1. Produce custom product designs for quotation support and product manufacture using 2D and 3D AutoCAD in accordance with agreed design principles and procedures.
   2. Produce 'works orders' to communicate design and component specification to production functions and external suppliers.
   3. Product design and 'works orders' must be undertaken in accordance with agreed design principles and procedures defined in the company manual.
   4. Produce and develop drawings for a range of products and specification layout designs.
2. Working with Customers:
   1. To carry out direct sales activities from incoming customer enquiries.
   2. To liaise directly with customers and suppliers to establish requirements, develop design solutions and specifications including occasional off-site visits to assess requirements at first hand.
   3. To raise, communicate and negotiate product quotations through use of software packages in line with procedures outlined in the company handbook and approval of senior staff.
   4. To maintain customer and supplier enquiry records and ensure an excellent level of customer service is offered at all times.
   5. Support, and assist when requested, all other departments and sundry tasks: machining, hands-on production, finance and purchasing and supplier liaison to ensure an efficient and effective working team.
   6. Liaise closely with production functions to resolve design queries and ensure finished products meet specified standards of design and quality.
   7. Follow Health and Safety procedures at all times as detailed in the Company Handbook.

To design custom product solutions with CAD software in both 2D and 3D formats for production in an on-site manufacturing facility. Design solutions will be developed through close liaison with customers and in accordance with agreed design principles and procedures. 3D Images will be produced to support proposals to customers and assist in the development of new product ranges.

Person Specification:

1. Mature approach, credible, and comfortable in dealing with colleagues, suppliers and customers alike.
2. Well presented with an understanding of good business practices and ethics.
3. Sufficiently mobile and flexible to occasionally travel to customers both within and outside the UK when required.
4. Able to get on with others and be a team-player.
5. Able to spend one or two nights away per month if required.
6. Must have a flexible approach to working hours and be able to work extended hours on occasions when required.

Benefits:

HOLIDAYS: 32 days per annum, including 8 days for public holidays, 3 or 4 days to be taken over Christmas shut-down.
