Overview
A global leader in actuarial and reinsurance services is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the Basis Development team within their Research & Development division. This role offers an opportunity to influence key actuarial assumptions across various markets, including Savings & Retirement and Protection in the UK, Netherlands, USA, Canada, and Australia, during a period of significant growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and maintenance of base and trend assumptions for longevity and protection markets across multiple regions.
- Manage and mentor a team of 4 actuaries, fostering their professional growth through coaching and development.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align assumptions with strategic business objectives and ensure timely delivery.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance scalability and standardization.
- Work closely with Medical Analytics, Strategic Analytics, and biometric teams to ensure assumptions are fit for purpose across all business areas.
- Drive research initiatives within the team, allocating time for innovation and exploration of new methods.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization, serving as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
- Qualified Fellow of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries (or equivalent) with at least 4 years post-qualification experience.
- Proven experience in basis development, either within a pricing or basis-setting team or a review function.
- Strong understanding of longevity insurance and/or protection reinsurance markets.
- Ability to implement new approaches and develop scalable processes adaptable to business growth.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of presenting complex information to senior leaders and collaborating with diverse teams.
- Willingness to learn or experience with software such as SQL, Tableau, and R.
- Experience in people management with a focus on developing and mentoring junior actuaries.
