The Role
As an Engineering Tech Lead, you’ll balance hands-on coding with team leadership, driving technical excellence and ensuring your squad delivers scalable, high-quality solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders, define roadmaps, and build integrations with modern search solutions and headless CMS platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a squad of engineers to develop and optimise search, CMS, and core platform components.
- Contribute hands-on coding around 30% of the time, setting high standards for code quality and best practices.
- Mentor and coach team members through code reviews, pair programming, and regular feedback.
- Work with stakeholders to plan and prioritise technical roadmaps, breaking large projects into actionable tasks.
- Deliver integrations with cutting-edge search technologies (e.g., Algolia) and scalable CMS platforms.
- Champion Agile methodologies, driving collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Promote modern engineering practices such as microservices, API-first development, and event-driven design.
- Cultivate a culture of innovation, sharing ideas and fostering team growth.
What You’ll Bring:
- Strong leadership experience, with the ability to balance coding and team management.
- Proficiency in React, Next.js, GraphQL, TypeScript, and Node.js.
- Expertise in building and optimising REST APIs and working with NoSQL/SQL databases.
- Experience integrating search technologies and headless CMS platforms into large-scale systems.
- A delivery-focused approach with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with Agile principles, team dynamics, and effective stakeholder communication.
Desirable Skills:
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Algolia, Amplience, or similar CMS/search platforms.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms like Azure or AWS, with exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Experience with event-driven systems and caching tools like Redis.
- A good understanding of DevOps practices and cloud operations.
