Job Description:

The Underwriter is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence and convince others, including colleagues in other areas and external customers. The role has a significant impact through complex deliverables and provides advice related to technology or operations, affecting overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function.

A Natural Resources Underwriter in Corporate Developed Markets handles large and complex relationships within the UK and Western Europe, responsible for underwriting activities in partnership with Banking & International and Risk sectors. The role focuses on Power, Energy, Chemicals & CET sector clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Support bankers in underwriting requests for credit extensions, ensuring sound credit decisions and compliance with policies.
  • Prepare detailed credit summaries by analyzing business and financial data, identifying strengths and risks, and making final credit decisions.
  • Conduct financial analysis on companies and individuals, including trend, ratio, and cash flow analysis.
  • Perform industry and geographical research and due diligence.
  • Maintain understanding of Citibank products and services across banking divisions.
  • Ensure compliance with credit policies and regulatory standards.
  • Identify process improvements to reduce costs and improve customer service.
  • Support management, lead projects, mentor junior staff, and handle other duties as needed.
  • Assess risk in business decisions, ensuring compliance with laws and policies, and escalate issues appropriately.
Qualifications:
  • Experience with credit authority and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements and industry data.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and credit underwriting processes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and financial analysis software.
  • Ability to handle complex issues with significant impact and exercise discretion.
  • Educational qualification: Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred.
