Job description

Salary Range: £46,735 - £57,422

FTE: 1 (35 hours/week)

Term: Fixed Term (12 months)

Closing date: 30/05/2025

The University of Strathclyde is a world-class international technological institution with a proud history of driving business growth through cutting-edge research and innovation. At the heart of this mission is the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS)—a beacon for advanced manufacturing innovation that empowers businesses of all sizes to accelerate productivity, adopt cutting-edge digital technologies, and achieve net-zero targets.

At NMIS, we are not just transforming industries—we are building a stronger, more sustainable economy, nurturing future-ready talent, and driving real-world impact. Our diverse, passionate team collaborates with industry leaders, academia, and the public sector to solve challenges, inspire innovation, and shape the next generation of manufacturing excellence.

As part of the continuing evolution of NMIS, a new regional initiative is being designed and developed within the Aberdeen Energy Transition Zone, where we will partner with the EnergyWorks Campus in Aberdeen to deliver a facility which will consist of 50m2 of office accommodation and 300m2 of workshop, giving NMIS a footprint in North East Scotland.

As such we are looking for an experienced professional to lead on the design, development and delivery of the project.

The focus of this opportunity will be to develop, demonstrate and deliver advanced manufacturing technologies, reflecting local industry needs to support and meet the region’s manufacturing sector challenges. Industry partners engaging with the assets and capabilities at the new facility will have the opportunity to explore how to improve productivity, introduce efficiencies and access wider incubator support within the EnergyWorks facility – for example workshop space to model scale-up initiatives and skills development. There is also scope for the facility to act as a Digital window into HVMC – giving access to wider skills and equipment opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an initiative that will help drive the industrial and economic health of the region, Scotland and the UK. There is scope to engage and partner with organisations and industries based in the North East, for example GB Energy, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, major oil and gas companies, and a raft of mature and emerging SMEs who will be pivotal to the energy transition.

The successful candidate will be key in the successful delivery of the project, from initial start up to opening launch and beyond. They will be responsible for coordinating activity and providing effective overall project management leadership as well as working with a range of internal stakeholders and external partners. The role includes significant responsibility for helping define, develop and communicate user requirements for the physical infrastructure, working closely with departmental colleagues across the University e.g. Estates, procurement and on any subsequent capital expenditure on equipment.

To be considered for the role you will be educated to a minimum of Degree level in a relevant discipline or have significant relevant experience in a related role. You will have experience of managing large and complex projects involving a number of stakeholders, good communication skills, with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders. You will have good problem-solving abilities demonstrating an ability to apply initiative and judgement.

Due to the location of the initiative, you will be expected to spend a significant amount of time in Aberdeen at the NMIS EnergyWorks facility, ideally 2 or 3 days per week. There will also be travel required across the NE and to and from Glasgow.

Initial interviews will be held on a date to be communicated.
