Description

The CSG costs product currently handles approximately 700 instructions per month, covering a wide range of work types referred from all the different clusters within DAC Beachcroft LLP. The department's strategic aim is to provide litigation costs expertise on demand across various areas of the business, from low-value injury claims to complex multi-million-pound international commercial litigation.

Currently, the product has two Partners, six Legal Directors, and two Associates. There are a total of 53 lawyers with diverse experience, including Solicitors, Chartered Legal Executives, Costs Lawyers, and Paralegals.

The costs product comprises several specialized teams, including paying party teams (challenging claims for costs up to £100,000), two complex claims teams, and two receiving party recovery teams. An opportunity has arisen for at least one paralegal role within the paying party section, which handles claims of costs arising from various civil litigation areas such as personal injury, disease, clinical negligence, property damage, cyber, commercial, and abroad. There is also a Scottish jurisdiction unit.

We are currently accepting applications from candidates with no or minimal costs experience for this full-time paralegal position based in our Birmingham office.

What you will do?
Specific Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To
  1. Handle a caseload of costs challenges where individual costs claims are up to £100,000.
  2. Assume responsibility for quality control and benchmark compliance on your caseload, including accuracy and timeliness of management reporting and information.
  3. Demonstrate a high level of financial management regarding your files.
  4. Maintain and apply a consistent approach to all targets, including chargeable time, financial performance, realization rates, settlement rates, and average claim spend, aiming for a minimum of 1440 chargeable hours annually.
  5. Maintain and develop technical knowledge through training and reading appropriate publications.

  3. Ability to adopt a commercial perspective on legal issues rather than a purely academic approach.
  4. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
