Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Registered Mental Health Nurse to develop, lead, implement, and drive our mental health strategy across our care home group. The Head of Mental Health Services will support the Quality Team to deliver continuous improvement in standards, analyze incidents, and provide support, advice, and solutions to the Operational Team in managing residents with mental health difficulties. This role involves effective partnership working with the wider Quality and Operations Teams, ensuring the highest standards of mental health care for our residents.

Key Duties:
  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive mental health strategy aligned with Orchard Care Homes' values and goals.
  2. Develop and implement a mental health first aider program across the portfolio.
  3. Design and deliver training programs to enhance staff skills in mental health care.
  4. Oversee governance of mental health services, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  5. Provide clinical oversight and review of referrals involving mental health issues.
  6. Ensure safe admissions into our homes.
  7. Provide leadership and support to the Mental Health Team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  8. Remain a subject matter expert in current mental health best practices and standards.
  9. Work in accordance with legal and ethical requirements such as the Mental Health Act, NICE guidelines, and others.
  10. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure holistic care.
  11. Offer wellbeing interventions, advice, and support to residents with mental health difficulties.
  12. Respond to mental health crises, liaising effectively with stakeholders.
  13. Monitor and evaluate mental health services, implementing improvements as needed.
  14. Manage mental health care documentation to meet legislation and support holistic care.
  15. Support RCA reporting and follow-up actions.
  16. Liaise with external agencies like regulators and safeguarding teams.
Qualifications and Training:
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, ideally with a nursing degree.
  • Proven experience in a senior mental health role, preferably in an older people's care setting.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development related to current mental health initiatives.
  • Experience or qualification in Positive Behavior Support or similar is desirable.
  • Understanding of the UK regulatory framework and experience working with regulators and safeguarding teams.
