The Research Team produces research that directly informs investment strategy across and beyond Grosvenor’s international property business. There are three main pillars of the Research Team’s activities:
Strategy & Capital Allocation: Providing asset allocation insights based on the global economy and markets
Far-Sighted Research & Analysis: Providing thought leadership on long-term economic, demographic, social and environmental forces that could disrupt markets
Data Analytics: Combining granular datasets with rigorous statistical analysis to track changes in real estate markets and predict opportunities
Description of role
The role sits in a highly skilled specialist team that regularly interacts with the most senior investment decision-makers in the business. The environment is encouraging and intellectually curious, with a focus on learning & development.
Reporting to the Group Research Director, the role provides the opportunity to conduct research across a wide range of relevant fields of expertise including global economics, financial markets, real estate markets and beyond. This research is used to inform internal market forecasts, support investment analysis and provide strategic portfolio allocation recommendations.
The role is business facing and will offer the opportunity to communicate (through written work, group presentations and in-person meetings) with senior investment-decision makers across multiple teams within the business.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Group Research Director with analysis of major long-term economic, financial, demographic, social and environmental trends and their potential impact on real estate and other markets.
Assist the Group Research Director in the strategic analysis of Grosvenor’s key markets to help support the Group’s capital allocation process.
Work with the team to analyse economic and financial market events and their impact on global real estate markets.
Work with the team to deliver data-driven analysis that provides insights on Grosvenor’s key markets in the form of written notes, presentations, dashboards and indicators.
Assist wider Grosvenor teams in assessing the economic and market context for new UK and global real estate opportunities.
Respond to internal client requests for economic and market data, analysis and comment by maintaining knowledge of global economic and property market data.
Key Requirements
Qualifications and experience
A degree in Economics, finance, statistics, real estate or a related subject with a strong quantitative component and an excellent academic record is required.
Able to demonstrate a good level of work experience in a relevant commercial environment delivering and communicating data-driven analysis related to economies, markets or real estate. This could include a background in investment, consulting, research, the public sector, real estate or similar industries.
Skills and knowledge
Understanding of and ability to apply economic and market analysis to give practical investment insights is required.
Strong quantitative and data skills required, including knowledge of statistics and econometrics.
Advanced experience using Excel is required (e.g. Dynamic ranges, Index-matches, Array formulas).
Strong verbal, written and presentation skills required, including an ability to adapt communication for audiences of varying seniority and technical understanding.
Desire to learn about and work on a wide range of topics across global economics, real estate and beyond required.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to co-ordinate and work on multiple projects required.
Ability to positively work and build relationships with a range of internal clients that have different professional backgrounds required.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
A relevant master’s degree is desirable but not required. Progress towards, or a desire to pursue, a professional qualification (e.g. CFA, CAIA etc.) is desirable but not required.
Experience of real estate markets is desirable but not required, although a willingness and desire to learn rapidly about real estate investment is necessary.
Machine learning and data science methods are desirable but not required.
Experience using R or Python is desirable but not required.
