Job summary

WSP in Northern Ireland is seeking an Ecology Office Team Leader to guide a growing ecology team across ornithology, terrestrial and aquatic specialists. You will plan workloads, mentor staff, and ensure technical quality while collaborating with disciplines across the firm.

You will lead tender production, manage client surveys, oversee mitigation strategies and support regulatory engagement on-site for projects.

Qualifications

• An appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline and a member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (mentoring/support available to progress through membership).
• Experience in staff management and mentoring team members at WSP.
• Proven ability to support clients with survey programmes, pragmatic mitigation, regulator agreement and on-site supervision.
• Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment and EIA reports writing.
• Project management experience on medium to large scale projects.
• Experience of winning work from commercial clients across sectors.

Responsibilities

• Plan workload, career development and wellbeing with the team and Regional Director, ensuring technical quality.
• Produce and input into tenders (commercial/technical) to support client projects.
• Provide leadership to create a positive, professional environment and mentor junior staff.
• Liaise with other disciplines within WSP to raise ecology awareness and engagement across teams.

We are seeking anEcology Office Team Leaderto join our Team, based in Northern Ireland. Our ecology team includesornithology, terrestrial, Biodiversity Net Gain and aquatic (inc. marine) specialists. We are a dynamic and friendly team, with other offices in Ireland and UK, working closely with a range of interrelated disciplines including Natural Capital specialists, arboriculturists, landscape architects, hydrologists, our historic environment experts and geotechnical specialists.

Your New Role What’s Involved?

As a people-focussed Team Leader you will be involved in the following activities:

• Working closely with your local team and the Regional Director to plan workload, career and personal development of the team, wellbeing and oversee technical quality.
• Producing and inputting into tenders (commercial and technical) in support of our clients’ projects.
• Provide leadership and guidance that creates a positive and professional, supportive working environment, to develop and mentor junior team members.
• Liaising with other disciplines within WSP to expand the awareness of, and engagement with the South East ecology teams.
• Helping to nurture an enthusiastic, supportive, productive and fun working environment.
• Availing of a generous training and career development budget to complete training (in-house and external) to help with own personal development and career progression.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

• An appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (mentoring and support is available to progress along all stages of membership).
• Experience of staff management and a passion for developing and mentoring individuals as they progress their careers at WSP.
• A proven record of supporting clients through devising and delivering survey programmes, developing pragmatic, cost-effective mitigation, gaining the agreement of regulators and supervising implementation on-site.
• Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment and writing EIA Reports.
• Project management experience and skill with medium to large scale projects.
• Experience of winning work from commercial clients, across a range of sectors.
