Job Description:

At MAG, we provide airport facilities and travel services connecting people worldwide. As the largest UK-owned airport operator, we serve over 60 million passengers annually from Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands Airports. Our network covers over 270 destinations globally, fostering regional prosperity and global connectivity.

Sustainability is a core value at MAG, guiding our efforts to protect the environment and support local communities. Our initiatives include decarbonisation of airports and airlines, education, skills and employment programs, and community engagement, including volunteering opportunities.

We believe that creating a first-class journey for our customers begins with a first-class career journey for our colleagues. We are committed to fostering inclusive environments where our people can thrive. Benefits include:

  • Flexible pension plan with up to 8% contribution options
  • Free parking
  • Subsidised public transport
  • Extensive company discounts
  • 24/7 VirtualGP service
  • Two volunteering days per year

In this role, you will collaborate with the Group Biodiversity Manager and Airport Environmental Managers to implement biodiversity plans that enhance and preserve biodiversity across the airport and related projects. Your responsibilities include executing biodiversity management strategies at site level, conducting second-line audits for biodiversity activities, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and best practices.

You will engage with stakeholders such as local communities, conservation groups, government agencies, and partners to promote biodiversity initiatives. Your tasks include reviewing ecological impacts of projects, overseeing specialist contractors, coordinating ecological monitoring, supporting legal compliance audits, and integrating natural assets into the MAXIMO asset management system. Additionally, you will help develop maintenance regimes and assist in securing funding for biodiversity projects.

About you:

We seek a candidate with a degree-level qualification and practical experience in onsite ecology management, familiar with ecological data quality assurance and metrics like UKHab, GRESB, DEFRA BNG, and TNFD. You should be adept at managing small to medium projects from inception to completion, capable of working with subcontractors, and communicating complex ecological information clearly to operational teams. Proficiency in Excel (including VBA) is essential; experience with GIS and field ecology is desirable but not mandatory. A full UK driving license is required for site travel. Membership in professional bodies such as CIEEM or CIWEM is expected.
