Yorkshire Water is seeking an Assistant Ecologist to help deliver ecological surveys, habitat management, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) across sites. You will work with ecologists, project teams and external consultants to ensure compliance and sustainable outcomes.

The role offers hybrid working (1–2 days in the office per week) with a focus on ecological risk management, data collection, and stakeholder engagement within the Land & Property team.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant discipline.
• At least one survey season's experience supporting habitat and protected species surveys.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation and its business implications.
• Willingness to travel to remote locations across Yorkshire.
• Experience with UKHab surveys and Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs).
• Demonstrates Yorkshire Water's values and behaviours in all aspects of work.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of ecology and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) advice for capital projects.
• Assist in implementing and developing Yorkshire Water's BNG strategy.
• Collaborate with project teams and external consultants to manage ecological risks.
• Coordinate ecological surveys through external consultants and manage outputs.
• Review ecological reports and advise on actions and risks.
• Develop knowledge in ecological risk management and habitat enhancement.
• Support BNG Habitat Bank data collection, monitoring and reporting.
• Assist with Habitat Regulations Assessments and SSSI considerations.
• Create and maintain GIS datasets and mappings.
• Engage stakeholders to implement ecological requirements effectively.
