Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ecologist to join our interdisciplinary team across the UK. The role focuses on ecology input for infrastructure and natural environment projects, with field surveys, reporting and regulatory submissions.

You will contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, work with HMMPs, and support policy-informed habitat management. Flexible across the UK with hybrid opportunities and career development support.

Qualifications

• Membership of CIEEM or working toward it.
• Strong botanical knowledge and field ID skills.
• Understanding Biodiversity Net Gain legislation and methods.
• Experience with HMMPs and ecological reporting.
• Knowledge of UK Habitat surveys and Defra metrics.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Support nationally important infrastructure projects and manage project programmes and budgets.
• Plan and conduct field surveys; analyse survey results.
• Design and coordinate ecological mitigation.

Our award-winning team of over 130 ecologists (including the President of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and three CIEEM Fellows) work across a range of exciting habitat creation, research, development and major infrastructure projects; we also design new innovations and help inform policy.

Your role

• Supporting on nationally important infrastructure projects, managing project programmes and budgets.
• Planning and undertaking field surveys; analysing and interpreting survey results.
• Designing and co‑ordinating ecological mitigation.
• Authoring a range of ecological reports and licence applications.
• Interdisciplinary engagement - the candidate will actively seek to engage with other areas of the business.
• Candidatewill proactivelyprovide innovation on projects and within the ecology team.
• Thisrolewillhavetailoredmentoring andsupport towards achievingcareergoals.
• Appropriatetrainingcoursesexternal andinternalwillbereviewed with your mentor andPracticeManager.

About you

• MembershipoftheChartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or actively working towards this.
• Strong botanical skills, including (preferably) at least Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level4, or demonstrable botanicalability matching this level.
• Aknowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation, policy and methods, the natural environment and wildlife legislation.
• The ability to undertake Biodiversity Net Gain assessments including feasibility assessments, baseline assessments and post works assessments.
• Goodreport writing skills including (preferably) experience of authoring Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs).
• Reportwriting, including preparing Preliminary Ecological Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments.
• Strong working knowledge and experience of UK Habitat survey, habitat condition assessments, and the Defra Biodiversity Metric.
• Aworking knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation, policy and methods, the natural environment and wildlife legislation.
• The ability to undertake Biodiversity Net Gain assessments including feasibility assessments, baseline assessments and post works assessments.
• Goodreport writingskills including (preferably) experience of authoring Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs).
• Strong botanical skills, including (preferably) at least Field Identification SkillsCertificate (FISC) level4, or demonstrable botanicalabilitymatchingthislevel.
• AfullUK/EEC driving licence.
